We all experience passing thoughts that tell us we ar not good enough, that something might go wrong, or that the future should look different from the way it does. The we believe these thoughts without question, they can create stress, fear and suffering.

The good news is that we don’t need to fight our thoughts, suppress them or replace them with positive affirmations.

Instead, we can simply recognise them for what they are - thoughts.

Just as clouds pass across the sky, thoughts come and go. Beneath them is a deeper part of us that remains calm, resilient and whole.

Throughout my life I’ve navigated anxiety, cancer, loss, relationship challenges and major life transitions. What I’ve discovered is that peace doesn’t come from controlling every circumstance. It comes from understanding the nature of our experience and recognising the tour wellbeing is never as far away as we imagine.

The next time your mind is busy, pause for a moment and ask yourself:

“Is this thought absolutely true?”

You may discover that what looked so real a few moments ago begins to soften.

And in that space, clarity often appears.

Why We Don’t Have to Believe Every Thought

Have you ever noticed that the same situation can look completely difference depending on your state of mind?

One Day you feel optimistic and capable. The next day, faced with the very same circumstances, you feel overwhelmed, anxious or uncertain.

What changed?

Most people assume it is their circumstances creating their feelings. Yet when we look more closely, we begin to see that our experience is being shaped moment by moment by the thoughts we are paying attention to.

Thoughts are powerful. They can inspire us, guide us and help us solve problems. But they are not always true.

Running has taught me that resilience isn’t about never struggling.

It’s about continuing to take the next step.

Sometimes the path is smooth and effortless.

Sometimes it feels like every step requires determination. But regardless of the conditions, progress is made one step at a time. What I love most about running is that it constantly reminds me that difficult moments pass.

  • The hill eventually levels out.

  • The discomfort changes.

  • The view appears.

Life works much the same way.

When we are caught up in difficult thoughts and emotions, it can feel as though things will always be this way. Yet experience shows us that every feeling, every mood and every challenge eventually changes.

We are often more resilient than we realise.

The next time life feels like an uphill climb, remember that you don’t need to see the entire path ahead. You only need to take the next step. And then the next.

In my work as a coach and hypnotherapist, I often meet people who believe they must fix themselves before they can feel better. They tell me they need more confidence, less anxiety, better circumstances or a different future.

While there is nothing wrong with wanting positive change, I have discovered something surprising through my own experiences and through working with hundreds of clients.

Peace is not found at the end of the journey.

It is available in this moment.

When the mind becomes busy, it can feel as though we are disconnected from our wellbeing. We become caught up in worries about the future or regrets about the past. Yet beneath the noise of thinking, there remains a quieter place within us.

  • A place of resilience

  • A place of wisdom

  • A place of peace

We don’t access this place through striking harder. We access it by slowing down and recognising that we don’t need to follow every thought that passes through our mind.

The peace we seek may be much closer than we think.

It may have been with us all along.

Peace Is Closer Than You Think

Many People spend years searching for peace.

We search through relationships, careers, achievements possessions, travel and even personal development, believing the one day we will finally arrive at a place where we can relax and feel content.

Yet what if peace isn’t something we need to create?

What if it is already there?

What Running Has Taught Me About Life

Some of my clearest insights have come while running.

Not when everything is easy, but when I’m climbing a steep hill, running through soft sand or wondering if I have enough energy to keep going.

Life has a way of presenting us with challenges we didn’t expect.

I’ve experienced cancer, loss, relationship changes, uncertainty and many moments when I didn’t know what would come next.
